Introduction

The Funding service provides you with a list of funding opportunities for projects and services related to learning and teaching.

To do a general search of the database, enter the term you wish to search for in the box labelled "Search for funding here...". This will return all the funding opportunity records where this term appears anywhere in that record.

There are alternative ways of accessing the database that may be more useful for your needs.

Browse

If you want to see what funding opportunities exist in the database under certain classifications such as Region and Discipline, you can click on "Browse through the funding opportunities". This is useful if you don't know exactly what you're looking for.

Advanced Search

If you want to run a more specific search, you can click on "Show advanced search options" and search the database using a variety of the different criteria available:

Funding organisation
Should you want to see funding opportunities offered by a particular funding organisation, you should make your selection from this drop-down list.

Sector
If you want to restrict your search results to either Higher Education (HE) or Further Education (FE) funding, then select the appropriate option from this drop-down.

Discipline
You should use this search field if you are looking for funding relating to a particular discipline. Two discipline lists are available to you. Those working in the HE sector will probably find the HE disciplines list more relevant. This list is the JACS classification of disciplines. For the needs of the FE community we have adopted the LearnDirect classification.

You can choose to find funding that has been classified using the term you enter or any more specific (narrower) term in the classification hierarchy. This is the default option. Alternatively, you can choose to find funding that been classified with precisely the term you enter. Finally, there is the option to just search for the text that you enter in the discipline field without worrying about where that text may exist in the classifications.

Clicking on the "get term" link will bring up a view of the classification that you wish to use. You can then browse through the classification and select your desired term by using the "Paste term to form" link at the top of the page.

Regional coverage
Are you looking for funding opportunities available in a particular geographic region? If so, please select appropriately from the drop-down list of UK regions.

This search is hierarchical so selecting UK will find funding opportunities classified as UK, and also those classified as somewhere within the UK such as Wales or Yorkshire and Humberside. Leave this box blank if you do not want your search to be restricted by geographical constraints.

Keyword
If you are looking for funding relating to a particular policy or pedagogy area, you should select the appropriate keyword from the two vocabulary lists available. For funding of projects or services relating to current policies, such as accessibility, widening participation etc, you should use the Policy Themes list. Clicking on the arrow enables you to see a drop-down list of all the terms in the vocabularies. Note that you can make a selection from both lists for more specific search results.

At least/At most
This field enables you to target your search at funding which is going to cover the cost of your intended projects or services. You can enter values into either the "At least" or the "At most" boxes, or in both. Values should be entered as pounds, with no symbols, dots or commas. For example £35,000.00 should be entered as 35000. All the amounts in the database are displayed in British sterling.

Closing date
Enter the earliest and/or latest closing dates you require in the format dd/mm/yy (e.g 10/04/05).

When you have specified the criteria upon which you want to do the search, click on the "Submit advanced search" button to run the search.
